June Photo A Day - Day 18:  Something we don't know about you

Today's photo prompt was something we don't know about you, or rather me.  Something that most people don't know about me is that I have a tattoo on my upper back of an ancient Egyptian Ankh.  Why an Ankh you ask.

I've been fascinated by all things ancient Egypt since I was a child and as an adult have always wanted an Ankh cross to wear as it symbolises life.  Throughout my adult life I've had a number of these that I have either purchased or been given however none of them has ever felt right.  When I turned 40 I had a kind of epiphany and decided I would get my first and only tattoo - a tattoo of an Ankh on my upper back.  From the moment I had it done it felt right, like it was meant to be there.  It's roughly 7cm (just under 3inches) from top to bottom and sits just below a T-shirt collar - it is after all for me and not a showy thing.

June Photo A Day - Day 13:  Art

Today's photo prompt was art.  This was an easy photo for me today as I wanted to showcase one of a number of pieces that we have that were created by a very dear friend of ours.  Without further ado, here's a photo of a painting titled Coven by Michelle (aka Leila) Callen.

Believe me, the photo really doesn't do this painting justice.

June Photo A Day - Day 4:  Close-up

Today's photo prompt is close-up.  Now I did ask the lovely Wayne if I could do a close-up shot however he was less than willing to be my muse for today.  I also considered a self portrait but got a dose of the giggles as I immediately thought of Gloria Swanson's immortal line from the film Sunset Boulevard, "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up!".  But alas, I'm no Gloria Swanson (or William Holden for that matter) so thought it best to find another subject.

As I'd left today's photo until late this evening, I wandered around our home looking for something suitable for a close-up shot.  I know the suspense must be killing you dear reader, but you can draw breath as I found a suitable subject.  Anyhoo, I now present to you (insert dramatic drum roll) a close-up photo of a wonderful painting we have in our dining room that was painted by a very dear friend.

I love this photo as it shows all the colours and brush-strokes and even the grain of the canvas.  My close-up turned out better than expected and as an added bonus, no actresses were harmed during the process!

April Photo a Day - Day 7:  Shadow

The photo prompt for today in the April Photo A Day Challenge was shadow.  I had visions of doing some really clever shadow puppets on the wall this evening and did the obligatory google search for instructions/demonstrations so that I would appear incredibly gifted and artistic with my chosen puppets.  The reality is that I'm kinda hopeless at this and the most recognisable shadow puppet I could (succesfully?) manage was a dog.  So here it is, my rather feeble attempt at a shadow puppet dog...

#FebPhotoADay - Day 8: Sun

I awoke this morning quite pleased that after what has seemed like an eternity of wet weather, the sun was shining.  Fantastic I thought, as today's theme for the February Photo A Day Challenge was Sun.  Well I hadn't planned my actual photo for today so was discussing this with my dear friend Michelle over lunch.  Between us we came up with the idea of a nice shot of sun reflecting off sunglasses.  Well I ended up stuck inside all day and so missed the opportunity of popping outside and taking my sun photo. 

On the way home from work I was on the phone to the lovely Wayne and said how I had missed my sun shot and would have do a catch-up shot tomorrow - he agreed.  However when I arrived home I was greeted with a gorgeous child-like water colour painting with a sun.  The lovely Wayne had channelled his inner child artiste to create me a little masterpiece so I could still take my sun shot today.  I'm so lucky :-)
