The A to Z of being G

Earlier today I was reading through the latest posts from my fave bloggers (the list is on the right) and saw that Kirsty's I must confess prompt for this week is an A to Z to describe one's self. I thought to myself that surely this would be an easy task - what a fool I am!

Anyhoo, after much thought, here's the A to Z of being G...

Arachnophobic. Spiders seriously freak me out. I pump half a can of spray on them (so they go white). The poison doesn't kill them, they drown. Alternatively I scream out to the lovely Wayne to come and kill it.

Big. As in tall. I'm just under 6 feet 2 inches tall.

Chatty. I'm always up for a chat or a chinwag and will happily talk to pretty much anyone.

Dancing queen. I love to bust a move and like nothing better than shakin' ma booty around the house with the music cranked up.

Eyes. They are the first thing I notice about a person. Some people look at teeth, hair or 'other things', but for me it's always the eyes.

Foodie. I LOVE food. I love trying new food, cooking food, but most of all eating it.

Gay. I'm gay, just in case you hadn't worked that out!

Horn bag. You'll never hear the "not tonight dear I've got a headache" line from me. Just being honest. If that's weirded you out, you shouldn't have been such a voyeur!

In love. Soppy but true. Still very much in love with the lovely Wayne after almost 25 years.

Just me. What you see is what you get. No airs, no graces, just me. If you don't like it, there's the door!

Kitchen nazi. The kitchen MUST be mess and clutter free. The rest of the house can look like a war zone, but not the kitchen.

Loud. I am loud. Those who know me can attest to this. If there's a room of people, my voice will be the one heard even if I'm talking 'quietly'. My laugh can also be heard from afar.

Moody. On occasion, I may or may not be moody. Apparently.

Novocastrian. I'm Newcastle born and bred. Well mostly. I did live in the Blue Mountains for a few years as a pre-teen.

Open book. I've been told I don't have a poker face at all. My face gives away exactly what I'm thinking. Always has, always will.

People watcher. I seriously love people watching. I could sit outside at a busy cafĂ© or the like and watch people all day. People fascinate me.

Quotes. I love quotes, whether inspirational or just plain thoughtful and nice. I have a couple that are faves and I wrote about my most favourite quote and its author here.

Romantic. I am a hopeless romantic. To prove my point, my absolute fave movie is Love Actually, which is watched a number of times a year.

Sensitive. I'm a sensitive boy. Sometimes things cut deep or affect me deeply. You won't know though as I'm not an open book with my inner most emotions.

Toy boy. As the lovely Wayne is 5 years older than me, I'm technically a toy boy.

Unco. I'm definitely unco, or uncoordinated. I near killed myself recently when I was on crutches for a week.

Voyeur. I guess I'm a voyeur as I love hearing and reading peoples' stories. That's probably why I love blogs and enjoy a good autobiography.

Wine lover. Not a lot I can say about this. It is what it is. Cheers!

Xtrovert. Hey I was struggling with X. They say opposites attract and that's very true in this household as the lovely Wayne is quiet whereas I'm an extrovert. Especially with a few wines on board!

Young at heart. Although I turn 48 later this year, I certainly never act it.

Zeds. Or zzzzzz. I love a good sleep-in and apparently am not a morning person.

Like I mentioned at the start, I'm linking up with Kirsty at My Home Truths for her weekly I must confess linkup.

I Must Confess

As an aside, don't ask your husband, wife, partner to assist with this list. If they are a smart arse like mine, you will get suggestions like A=arsehole, B=biatch, although he did redeem himself with C=cute.

Do any of these "characteristics" strike a chord with you?
Do you have a smart arse better half (or child even)?
As I've said, I'm a voyeur with this kinda shit, so please share.

Bum-Cam

Something that I'm sure I've stated in a blog post at some point is that there are no taboo subjects on this blog (consider yourself warned).  In keeping with that point I'd like to share with you dear reader, my take on colonoscopies.  The ins and outs if you will.  Why?  Because I'm linking up with Kirsty over at My Home Truths for her I must confess... linkup and today's topic is medical confessions.

Some background.  And sorry if it's a bit 'heavy', but it is what it is.  Both of my maternal grandparents died of bowel cancer when I was in my early twenties.  When I was in my early thirties, my mum had part of her bowel removed due to the same thing - she's now 70 and going strong.  Then in my mid thirties, my (then 32 year old) sister had surgery for the same thing - she'll be 45 this year and is the picture of health.  Despite genetic testing not showing any markers, that's three generations of bowel cancer.  So colonoscopies are now de rigueur in my family and as such are talked about (and joked about) quite openly.

Anyhoo back to my confession.  I went for my first colonoscopy almost 12 years ago at the age of 36.  For those not in the know, this is a day procedure in hospital and involves a general anaesthetic.  Now I hadn't had a general anaesthetic since having my tonsils removed at age 6 and had no idea what to expect.  I was worried that the anaesthetic would make me say/behave inappropriately as I came out of it.  It was a thought that was on my mind and worrying me as I came to in recovery.  The following is the lovely Wayne's recollection of the exchange that happened in the (full) recovery ward between myself and a very patient nurse...

Nurse:  Hi Gary, how are you?
Me:  I'm good, I'd really love a good fart though (they 'inflate' you to make it easier to shove a camera up your arse do the colonoscopy)
Nurse:  Go ahead, you'll feel better.  Would you like something to eat?
Me:  Yes please (see, manners)
The nurse arrives with a sandwich and a cuppa.
Me:  (thinking I'm speaking quietly) I haven't said or done anything embarrassing coming out of the anaesthetic have I?
Nurse:  The anaesthetic won't make you say or do anything you wouldn't normally do.
Me:  Oh shit.  I probably told the surgeon to fuck off then.
Nurse:  (laughing) I'm sure you didn't.

I should also point out that the waiting room for family members was adjacent to the recovery ward and the lovely Wayne later told me that every word I said could be clearly heard from said waiting room.  And I was talking VERY LOUDLY apparently.  When I was finally allowed to leave (in the care of the lovely Wayne) I was then trying to direct traffic in the hospital carpark.  This is another of those occasions when my family refer to the lovely Wayne as "Poor Wayne".  This is also why the lovely Wayne gets nervous when I go for my three yearly visits.  So there you have my medical confession - that I was a right pain in the arse when I went for my first bum-cam experience.

Lastly, a tip for you if having a colonoscopy.  The worst part of a colonoscopy is the 'clean out' the afternoon before.  You get to drink a little potion the day before.  Many visits to the 'throne room' ensue.  Due to the number and nature of visits one's 'freckle' can get a bit raw.  My tip is to pop a dab of Am-o-Lin cream on after each visit.  This will ensure that following day when you're ready for my close-up Mr DeMille, your 'freckle' doesn't look and feel like someone's thrown a bucket of hydrochloric acid over it.  You're welcome.

The impatient patient

I've been out of action for the last few weeks as I had to have a little op that has resulted in me taking things very slowly whilst I recuperate.  And I'm doing just fine too.  I should also confess that I'm not known for being the most patient of souls at the best of times, so you can imagine just how patient I've been as a patient!

You know how opposites attract, right?  Well that's kinda how it is here.  The lovely Wayne is very patient (well with me anyway) and has looked after this here patient very very well since I came home almost two weeks ago.  There have been a couple of days where I have needed a dose of reality - you know, those days where you feel a little sorry for yourself.  Well he has been very patient and understanding and has just ignored that.  He truly is a gem and I reckon I'm a very lucky guy.  These past couple of weeks have made me thankful for a couple of things...
  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the lovely Wayne is my rock.  Thanks handsome, you are my world and you go out of your way to make sure I feel like the centre of your world - love you long time. xx
  2. In the scheme of things, my op and recovery are but a blip on the radar.  I've given myself a stern talking to during this time and told myself to drink a cup of concrete and harden the fug up.  True story!

The lovely Wayne - he's kinda awesome in my book!

What did I learn from this?  I have to confess that I'm an impatient patient!

Do you think opposites attract (are you and your significant other opposites)?
Are you an impatient patient?
What are your tips for learning how to be a little more patient (asking for a friend)?

I'm linking up (a little late) with Kirsty at My Home Truths for her weekly I must confess... linkup.  You should too, confession is sooo liberating you know!

being gawee history 101

Well it's kind of a history lesson!  I'm linking up with Kirsty over at My Home Truths for her weekly I must confess linkup.  The theme for this week is all about blog names, how they came about and whether you would change them.

This is where the history bit comes in.  You see, this blog of mine did have a previous iteration.  Way back when I decided to try my hand at blogging I needed a name.  It was one of those moments when I found myself signing up to start the blog on a whim and had to insert a name!  OMG, what to write.  Being the juvenile that I am I harked back to a high school summer camp thingy (can't remember the proper turn of phrase for this - too much wine!) where we had to form into groups.  As the teen with the loudest voice (things never change) I was in charge of a group.  I deemed that the group be called the Marsha Brady Fan Club.  So almost 30 years later, I decided to call my blog the Marsha Brady Fan Club!  What was I thinking?  Clearly bugger all (I'd probably had a wine or 7).

The name lasted a few months before I realised that it had absolutely nothing to do with my blog.  Let's face it, my blog is pretty much about me, the lovely Wayne and topics that I feel inspired to write about.  But in essence, it's all about me daaahhling!  Anyhoo, to better reflect what my blog is about I changed the name to Being Gawee.  'Gawee' because my name is Gary and I get called Gawee on occasion by my nearest and dearest, and it made sense to add the 'Being' because it is all about me.  About being Gawee.  So there you have it, a little Being Gawee history lesson.

As for changing the name again, probably not.  Suffice to say I have established another name for an idea that I'm currently fleshing out.  That's all I'll say on that for now, I do have to have some surprises don't I?

Anyhoo, like I said I'm linking up with Kirsty today for her I Must Confess... link-up.

Do you have something you'd like to confess? If so, head on over to My Home Truths and leave a comment/link - you'll feel better for it, trust me.

Confessions of an elite athlete

Hi, I'm Gawee and I'm a sporadic slack as shit blogger.  Oops wrong confession!  I'm actually linking up with Kirsty from My Home Truths for her I must confess... link-up.  This week's prompt is sport.

I must confess, that I'm the pinnacle of athletic prowess, an elite athlete if you will.  No sport too difficult, no game too competitive, no match unwinnable.  I scoff at my opponents, adjust my gear (no not that) and proceed to annihilate them.  And then of course I wake from my slumber to realise I'm more sporty spice than sports star.  Okay, so maybe I'm not even sporty spice - old spice maybe?!

Okay, so onto my sporting life.  This won't take long.  As a youngster I played soccer, but my heart really wasn't in it.  Once I was old enough to exert some influence I started tennis and later, mixed netball.  There was also a smattering of orienteering thrown in there too.  I'm not terribly good at any of these sports (I'm a bit unco) but enjoy them, especially tennis and netball.  I'm actually better at netball than tennis.  Fancy, a gay man being good at netball - who'd have thought!

As a self confessed car nut, I was very fortunate that the lovely Wayne bought me a rally driving experience for one of my birthdays.  It was awesome, and I do believe the instructor (who had an uncanny resemblance to Robbie Williams) stated that I was a natural.  If you ever accept a lift from me, consider yourself warned that I'm a would-be rally driver!

This brings me to my TV sport of choice.  I like a good rally, but particularly like the Dakar Rally.  I live for January each year so that I can watch the 30 minute snippets every night on SBS.  The lovely Wayne knows only too well that that is quiet time.  As for other kinds of racing, they bore me.  I can't think of anything worse than watching cars go round and round a circuit.  Hell, I even pity the poor drivers.

So there you have an insight into the life of a not-quite-elite-athlete.  If only wine and cheese consumption was an Olympic sport, I'd have shelves of medals!

Anyhoo, like I said I'm linking up with Kirsty today for her I Must Confess... link-up.

Would you like to 'fess up about your sporting prowess? Or do you have something else you'd like to confess? If so, head on over to My Home Truths and leave a comment/link - you'll feel better for it, trust me.

Pimpin' mah blog homies

This week's I must confess prompt by Kirsty over at My Home Truths is Do you have a post of which you are proud?  It just happened to coincide with a post by blogger Kellie Anderson on the Aussie Bloggers Facebook page in which she refers readers to Gizoogle and suggests you type in your blog name.  Well what an absolute scream.  In light of this, my confession is not so much the post I'm most proud of, but the post that I would love to have been able to be proud of!

So here is the gizoogle translation of a recent post of mine, and which I would have been super proud to have written...

Oh yeah, language warning!!

Umm, hai...

Yes yes y'all, I know itz been a while since we chatted but, well, game kinda happens.  It aint nuthin but a funky-ass biatch like that!  Anyhoo I thought it would be a pimped out scam ta time mah 'comeback' wit a cold-ass lil confessionizzle post whereby I link up wit fellow blogger (& playa) the ghettofab Kirsty from I be a gangsta yo, but y'all knew dat n' mah Home Truths.  Okay on ta tha confessional...

Confession One - I have failed tha confessionizzle as tha link-up happens on a Mondizzle (although Kirsty do state it is open all week - give props ta heavens fo' lil' small-ass mercies!).

Confession Two - I have no excuse fo' not postin yesterdizzle (or even earlier todizzle) as I be on holidays dis week.  Yes, can I just say dat again n' again n' again - I'M ON HOLIDAYS THIS WEEK!  Woot playa!

Confession Three - I have failed wit tha prompt fo' dis weekz I Must Confess link-up n' have only provided a half-arsed attempt at dat shit.

Confession Four - mah (dismal) soundtrack ta mah game.  Or rather, tha choonz dat strike a cold-ass lil chord wit me (tonight!).  Okay up in no specific order...
  • Crazy-Ass up in ludd - BeyoncĂ©.  Well what tha eff can I say bout dis other than I lurve it coz I be partial ta shakin' mah booty (aka bustin' a move) up in tha privacy of mah lounge room.  Oh aiiiight, n' occasionally up wit a suitable amount of Cristal on board dawwwg!
  • Steppin Biatch - ABBA.  Well like duh!  Gay playa here (and Abba tragic).  I channel mah inner diva wit dis one.
  • I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls.  I was a teenager up in tha 80z which should explain A LOT.  As a result I be a 80z tragic.  I mean, tha hair, tha glasses, tha fashion!  Also be thinkin Duran Duran, Adam & tha Ants, etc.  Yes yes y'all, I did attempt dem fashions n' afroz (I had tha afro ta do it back then).
  • Radioactizzle - Imagine Dragons.  This be a pimped out cold lil' woo wop by a equally pimped out crew (great mixtape too).  And tha vizzle is just phat.  Currently on high rotation here.
  • Anchor - Mindy Gledhill.  I discovered dis truly dope cold lil' woo wop a cold-ass lil couple muthatruckin years back n' it straight-up struck a cold-ass lil chord wit mah dirty ass.  This is tha cold lil' woo wop I would rap ta tha ghettofab Weezy at our weddin coz it sums up EXACTLY how tha eff I feel bout n' towardz his muthatruckin ass.  2 provisoz ta dis straight-up goin down though - bein able ta legally marry his ass here up in Australia, n' copious rappin lessons as I can't hold a tune ta save mah game!  Also gotz a dig tha Spanish version dat Mindy do coz itz equally dope.
All up in all though, I have straight-up varied musical tastes n' they is linked ta mah vibes, n' some would say mah state of sobriety!  These choonz is by no means mah most fave, they is what tha eff popped tha eff into mah head while composin dis post (well except fo' Mindy Gledhill coz it is how tha eff I feel about, you know, him!).

And there endeth tha confessional!

Oh wow, whoever holla'd dat confession was phat fo' tha ass was onto something.  I feel much mo' betta fo' it, truly!  Do you wanna feel phat (no dis aint a cold-ass lil cheesy segway ta some dubious marital aid product)?  Then why not pop over n' link up wit Kirsty at My Home Truths.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope it gave you as much of a laugh as it gave me.  You can read the actual original post here (no where near as funny though).

PS - I changed some words in the translation (eff, mothertruckin) which may have appeared differently in the initial translation!  Apologies if I missed any!

Confessions & Choonz

Umm, hai...

Yes I know it's been a while since we chatted but, well, life kinda happens.  It's a biatch like that!  Anyhoo I thought it would be a great idea to time my 'comeback' with a confessional post whereby I link up with fellow blogger (& friend) the lovely Kirsty from My Home Truths.  Okay on to the confessional...

Confession One - I have failed the confessional as the link-up happens on a Monday (although Kirsty does state it is open all week - thank heavens for small mercies!).

Confession Two - I have no excuse for not posting yesterday (or even earlier today) as I'm on holidays this week.  Yes, can I just say that again - I'M ON HOLIDAYS THIS WEEK!  Woot!

Confession Three - I have failed with the prompt for this week's I Must Confess link-up and have only provided a half-arsed attempt at it.

Confession Four - my (dismal) soundtrack to my life.  Or rather, the choonz that strike a chord with me (tonight!).  Okay in no specific order...
  • Crazy in love - BeyoncĂ©.  Well what can I say about this other than I lurve it coz I am partial to shakin' my booty (aka bustin' a move) in the privacy of my lounge room.  Oh alright, and occasionally out with a suitable amount of wine on board!

  • I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls.  I was a teenager in the 80's which should explain A LOT.  As a result I am an 80's tragic.  I mean, the hair, the glasses, the fashion!  Also think Duran Duran, Adam & the Ants, etc.  Yes I did attempt those fashions and hairstyles (I had the hair to do it back then).
  • Radioactive - Imagine Dragons.  This is a great song by an equally great group (great album too).  And the video is just awesome.  Currently on high rotation here.
  • Anchor - Mindy Gledhill.  I discovered this truly beautiful song a couple of years back and it really struck a chord with me.  This is the song I would sing to the lovely Wayne at our wedding coz it sums up EXACTLY how I feel about and towards him.  2 proviso's to this actually happening though - being able to legally marry him here in Australia, and copious singing lessons as I can't hold a tune to save my life!  Also have a listen to the Spanish version that Mindy does coz it's equally beautiful.
All in all though, I have very varied musical tastes and they are linked to my moods, and some would say my state of sobriety!  These choonz are by no means my most fave, they are what popped into my head while composing this post (well except for Mindy Gledhill coz it is how I feel about, you know, him!).

And there endeth the confessional!

Oh wow, whoever said that confession was good for the soul was onto something.  I feel much better for it, truly!  Do you wanna feel good (no this isn't a cheesy segway to some dubious marital aid product)?  Then why not pop over and link up with Kirsty at My Home Truths.

Memories of matchbox cars

Okie dokie, it's Monday which can only mean one thing - it's time to link up with Kirsty from My Home Truths for her I must confess... linkup.  So what am I 'fessing up to this week?  I'm following the prompt for this week which is your earliest childhood memory.

My earliest childhood memory surprises me in one respect but not in another.  As the elder of 2 children (by almost 3 years) you would think that my earliest childhood memory would involve the arrival of my sister considering it would have changed the whole dynamic with my parents and I.  But it isn't.  I don't really have any memories of my sister until she was old enough to 'play'.  Sorry Girly Girl.  Ironically my first memory is from just a few weeks after her birth though.

When I was almost three, we moved house.  Me, mum, dad and the Girly Girl.  On the day we moved into our new home, I can vividly remember being installed at the front living room window (it went almost down to the floor) with my tin of matchbox cars so I could drive them along the window sill.  Mum has since told me that was so I was out of the way, could watch what was happening and was still in sight of all concerned.  I can still remember driving my matchbox cars and watching men lugging furniture into our home.

So why doesn't this memory surprise me?  Well I've loved cars all my life and still do, so it's fitting that my earliest memory involves cars.

Anyhoo, like I said I'm linking up with Kirsty today for her I Must Confess... link-up.

Would you like to 'fess up about your earliest memory? Or do you have something else you'd like to confess? If so, leave a comment and/or link up over at My Home Truths - you'll feel better for it, trust me.

Devices and de-Vices

Well hello there, it's been a while since we last chatted.  No particular reason, guess I've just been in a bit of a blogging funk and so took a break for the month of March.  Here it is the first of April so I'm free from my self imposed blog silence.

Time for a confessional methinks.  And what better way than to link up with Kirsty from My Home Truths for her I must confess... linkup.  This week Kirsty's featured 'fess up is about how many devices we have and how we use them.  Hmmm, amazing isn't it that you never think about some things until someone mentions it/them.  Between the two of us here, we have two laptops, two iPhones, two non-iPhones (read, crappy work phones!), two iPods, one iPad (so far!) and a Sony Playstation.  Now I use these items primarily for work, social media, music - you get the idea.  The lovely Wayne on the other hand uses all of these devices to play/game on.  See, I'm the grown up and he's a 51 year old child!  Love ya babe ;-)  There's also the most utilised non-tech device in our abode - the Nespresso coffee machine.  One word - heaven!

This confessional also got me thinking about de-Vices that I have.  Lets face it, I may have a few vices (yes, I'm well aware that will come as a shock for most of you), but they too come in useful at times.  For example, I have been known to procrastinate.  This has been useful as it's taught me to think on the fly and make things work at the last minute under high pressure - usually because I've been putting the task at hand off until the last minute.  There's a whole lot more vices but I'll save them for another time!

Anyhoo, like I said I'm linking up with Kirsty today for her I Must Confess... link-up.

Would you like to 'fess up about your devices (or even vices)? Or do you have something else you'd like to confess? If so, leave a comment and/or link up over at My Home Truths - you'll feel better for it, trust me.

G. xx

PS; I have to share this exchange with the lovely Wayne whilst I was writing this post...

Gawee:  Tell me what you see as my vices, I want to write about them.

The lovely Wayne:  How long have you got?

Gawee:  Haha, I'm being serious.  No consequences I just want to write about them.

The lovely Wayne:  Not a chance, I want the peaceful life!

Hmmm - the wise words of a clever man methinks...LOL.

Go Go Gadget...

I'm linking up today with Kirsty of My Home Truths for I must confess... This week Kirsty suggested we all 'fess up about our first job.  And me being me, I'm 'fessing about two jobs.

My very first job was a part time job whilst I was still at school.  I worked Thrsday nights and Saturday mornings at the local large chain supermarket.  I initially started as a Trolley Boy and was then 'promoted' inside the shop to the Fruit and Vegetable department.  I thought I was the ants pants.  I have very fond memories of that time.  I was lucky enough to work with a school friend (Suzanne) and we occasionally tried to gross each other out with rotten fruit.  There may have been the occasional 'fruit bomb' hurled after closing (out of sight of managers of course!).  Like I said, it was fun and brings a smile to my face.

My first full time job was also in retail.  I worked in the toy department at another large chain variety store (you know, one of those ones with a single letter as part of its name).  This too was a fun and carefree job and allowed me to buy my first car which signalled freedom - but I digress.  As an 18 year old, it was great to play with check out the new toys coming in.  For those that remember, THE toy of the time was Inspector Gadget (go go gadget arms! etc).  Anyhoo, one of the memories I have from that time is the day we had an Inspector Gadget promotional day.  We had a life size Inspector Gadget in store meeting kids and of course giving all the merchandise a shameless plug.  I have a photo somewhere of me with Inspector Gadget - yes I know, the shame!

The other memory I have of this job is more of a gripe - oh alright, a rant!  Now I understand what a tough gig it is being a parent, BUT, toy departments are NOT child minding play centres where you dump your kids so you can shop in peace.  Sorry, but so much stock is damaged and written off due to kids being left there and even encouraged by some parents to just open something up and play with it while mum/dad looks around the rest of the store.  It was, and still is, my pet peeve.  And was why I was determined to get out of there.  It's a tough gig for an 18 year old when you don't get the desired sales figures because so much stuff is damaged. End of rant!!

Anyhoo, like I said I'm linking up with Kirsty today for her I Must Confess... link-up.

Would you like to 'fess up about your first job? Or do you have something else you'd like to confess? If so, leave a comment and/or link up over at My Home Truths - you'll feel better for it, trust me.

10 things about me

As I'm a caring sharing kinda guy, and you dearest of readers are simply dying to know more about me (stalking even!), I thought I'd share 10 things about me that most don't know.  Okay here goes...

1:  I don't like mangoes.  I know you're all agog at this, but I seriously can't stand the taste or smell of these revolting things.  The lovely Wayne on occasion is told that if the mango in the fruit bowl is not eaten today, it is thrown out - I hate the smell that much!

2:  I love a good roadtrip.  Maybe I'm a kind of Thelma & Louise wannabe, but I do love getting out on the open road and just going, and going.

3:  I'm a certified four-wheel-driving instructor.  Back when the lovely Wayne and I had every weekend off together we did a lot of four wheel driving in the Jeep.  As an aside, I was also the president of a 4wd club for 3 years and am quite adept at servicing my vehicle!

4:  I love anything to do with ancient Egypt.  I've had a fascination with ancient Egypt since I was a child.  I even remember making a Lego Sphinx for a school project once!

5:  I have a tattoo of an ancient Egyptian Ankh Cross on my upper back.  I got this, my one and only tattoo, when I turned 40 (I'm well aware that you're shocked that I'm actually over 40!).  It is roughly 7cm from top to bottom.  The Ankh is the symbol for life and is something that I've worn in various guises throughout my life (pendants, rings, etc).  This one feels right (just as well as it's kinda permanent!).

6:  I don't do the dishes.  Many years ago when the lovely Wayne and I were building our first home, we had a "discussion" about having a dishwasher.  The lovely Wayne felt that 2 people didn't really need one so I stated that he would then do all the dishes - he agreed (fool)!  And that has stuck with us ever since (I'm well aware that I'm now possibly seen as a complete bitch!).

7:  I don't iron.  I HATE ironing.  I would rather clean 10 toilets than iron - seriously!  Needless to say you can probably guess who does each of those tasks in this household (if you needed more proof that I'm a bitch, there you go - LOL).  I'm sure that this and #6 are why everyone refers to the lovely Wayne as 'Poor Wayne'!

8:  I collect Eiffel Tower stuff.  I LOVE the Eiffel Tower.  I think it is one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture on the planet.  I love pictures, photos, models, the lot.

9:  I was a hair model in my early twenties for a major hair salon in Newcastle.  Hard to believe I know, but I wasn't always this follically challenged!

10:  Lastly, I know Kirsty from My Home Truths.  We've worked together on and off for over 15 years and share a love of blogging and social media.

And, how's this for a segue, I'm linking up with Kirsty today for her I Must Confess... link-up.

Would you like to confess 10 things about you? Or do you have something else you'd like to confess? If so, leave a comment or link up over at My Home Truths - you'll feel better for it, trust me.

Movie Buff Wannabe

I jest of course!  I'm certainly no movie buff and really don't know the first thing about the technical side of movies or movie making, however I do know which movies I like.  More to the point, I know which ones are my favourites.

I'm linking up today with Kirsty of My Home Truths for I must confess...  This week Kirsty suggested we all 'fess up to our five fave films.  A pre-emptive confession first though - I've failed as I could only get my list down to six!  And lets face it, it was easier to arrange six movie posters into a collage of sorts than five - that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Anyhoo, the movies...

1: Love Actually - easily my absolute most fave movie ever.  I laugh, I cry, I swoon every single time and I MUST watch it every Christmas (and usually a few other times throughout the year).

2: The Sound of Music - I've loved this since I was a kid.  Even as a kid there were clearly signs I was gay!  LOL.

3: Pulp Fiction - what can I say?  This movie really is fantastic the way it all comes together.  And I'm a huuuge Tarantino fan (and the Coen brothers too).

4: The Breakfast Club - this is just such a great coming of age movie from the '80s.  As I was a teenager in the '80s it kinda strikes a chord (and that music).

5: The Rocky Horror Picture Show - this is just fabbo on all sorts of levels.  I remember feeling quite liberated the first time I saw it as a 13 year old and bought the soundtrack the next day.  I've also seen it live numerous times.

6: Monsoon Wedding - this is a beautiful Bollywood movie.  It's quite confronting at times however it remains a fave.  I love foreign films and could have included a few in this list.

Honourable mentions include The Rose, Fargo, Roman Holiday, Thelma & Louise, and The Birdcage.

Like I said, I'm linking up with Kirsty of My Home Truths for I must confess...

Would you like to confess your fave five films (or six even!)?  Or do you have something else you'd like to confess?  If so, link up or leave a comment over at My Home Truths - you'll feel better for it, trust me.

Confessions of a procrastinator

Way back here I blogged about my grandiose plan to participate in Fat Mum Slim's photographic challenge by composing diptych photos and blogging about them every day.  Ha!  What a crock of the proverbial.

I must confess that I got to day 18 and failed my self imposed challenge miserably.  Sunday wasn't completed due to a dreaded migraine however that indeed signalled the death knell as I must confess that I have done nothing but procrastinate since.

So in the spirit of a true confessional, I'm linking up with Kirsty over at My Home Truths as part of her I Must Confess weekly link up.  Note that I'm not actually a religious zealot or the like, it's a case of confession cleansing the bloggy soul.

As a side note, I will probably (note I didn't definitely commit!) randonly participate in the remainder of the FMS photographic challenge however I won't be sharing here.  You'll be able to keep up with any photos on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Do you have anything you'd like to get off your chest or confess? If so, link up or leave a comment over at My Home Truths - you'll feel better for it, trust me!
