Devices and de-Vices

Well hello there, it's been a while since we last chatted.  No particular reason, guess I've just been in a bit of a blogging funk and so took a break for the month of March.  Here it is the first of April so I'm free from my self imposed blog silence.

Time for a confessional methinks.  And what better way than to link up with Kirsty from My Home Truths for her I must confess... linkup.  This week Kirsty's featured 'fess up is about how many devices we have and how we use them.  Hmmm, amazing isn't it that you never think about some things until someone mentions it/them.  Between the two of us here, we have two laptops, two iPhones, two non-iPhones (read, crappy work phones!), two iPods, one iPad (so far!) and a Sony Playstation.  Now I use these items primarily for work, social media, music - you get the idea.  The lovely Wayne on the other hand uses all of these devices to play/game on.  See, I'm the grown up and he's a 51 year old child!  Love ya babe ;-)  There's also the most utilised non-tech device in our abode - the Nespresso coffee machine.  One word - heaven!

 

This confessional also got me thinking about de-Vices that I have.  Lets face it, I may have a few vices (yes, I'm well aware that will come as a shock for most of you), but they too come in useful at times.  For example, I have been known to procrastinate.  This has been useful as it's taught me to think on the fly and make things work at the last minute under high pressure - usually because I've been putting the task at hand off until the last minute.  There's a whole lot more vices but I'll save them for another time!

Lost without....

It's Day Ten of the November Photo A Day Challenge which means I'm a third of the way through!  The prompt for today is Can't (won't) live without.  Read here about my self imposed twist to this month's challenge.

Two things came to mind straight away when I read today's photo prompt - the lovely Wayne and my iPhone.  I don't like being too far away from either of them!  So they're my diptych components for today - the lovely Wayne and my iPhone (I've chosen to feature my fave photo apps).

Five o'clock shadow

It's Day Five of the November Photo A Day Challenge - the prompt for which is 5 o'clock. Read here about my self imposed twist to this month's challenge.

Today's diptych photo composition consists of two represntations of 5 o'clock - 12 hours apart.  The first part is a screen shot of my iPhone at 5.00am when my alarm went off - yes I did hit snooze (a few times!).  The second part was snapped this afternoon - 5 o'clock shadow.  Now just to clarify, this 5 o'clock shadow belongs to the lovely Wayne who modelled for me under intensely tying conditions (according to him).  I mean really, I think it was me working under trying conditions - damn models and their demands!  Oh yes, I've again indulged my passion for black and white photography.

Total Control

Here I am at Day Four of the November Photo A Day Challenge - the prompt for which is TV.  Read here about my self imposed twist to this month's challenge.

There's not really a lot I can say about today's diptych composition.  I did take an arty shot of the TV itself however the reflections in it looked very ordinary so it was duly deleted (the pic, not the TV!).  Instead, there's a photo of the remote and a screen shot from my iPhone of one of my more used apps.  It's the OzTV app.  If you haven't used it, do yourself a favour (said in my best Molly Meldrum voice) and try it out.  It has all program details for the majority of free to air television stations in Australia and can be configured however you like.  Armed with this and the remote, I truly am in total control - the TV master if you please!  Ok, well sometimes I am!

 

Are you the TV master or TV mistress in your household?  Hmmm, TV mistress sounds a bit kinky doesn't it?!  Ah well, whateva floats ya boat!

Still here

Just a quick post to say "I'm still here"!

I'm currently quiet as I'm not adding too much content to the blog at the moment.  This is because I will be moving the blog to a new location and making a few tweaks in a few weeks time - this is one of the things I will be tackling when I have holidays in September.  More about that once the move is complete and I resume normal transmissions.

Lastly, I thought I should give an update on my dear dad.  His recovery is nothing short of miraculous as he is more or less back to his usual self, which is pretty amazing considering he had brain surgery 4 weeks ago!  In a word, he's fantastic!

So there you have it, a quick update on the goings on around here.  What's happening with you?

The spot

June Photo A Day - Day 19:  Imperfect

Today's theme for the Photo A Day challenge was imperfect.  Ha, I thought I had this covered way too easily.  I mean I'd just post a photo of myself right?  Well no one is perfect and I'm certainly far from it!  That being said though, I kinda thought there's probably enough shots of my mug in this month's challenge so time I thought of something else.

Then it dawned on me - one of the things that I use everyday and that the lovely Wayne has commented is all but permanently attached to me - my iPhone!  More specifically the camera in my iPhone.  There is a minute scratch or chip or something in my iPhone's camera lens which shows up in the top left corner of every photo I take even if I've cleaned it to within an inch of its life.  It is in fact imperfect wouldn't you agree?!  I've now overcome this imperfection by creatively placing it over something darker in photos or by cropping it out altogether.  Anyhoo, here's a photo of a blank wall to illustrate the imperfection with my iPhone camera.

June Photo A Day - Day 8:  Six o'clock

Today's photo prompt was six o'clock.  This was an easy one as I usually have my alarm set for 6.00am each day.  The only concern was that I would roll over and hit the snooze button like I do most mornings and then miss the photo opportunity.  Surprisingly, I woke up and grabbed my phone and took a screen shot, then of course I hit the snooze button - LOL.

Anyhoo here's my photo for today, a screen shot of my iPhone at 6.00am this morning!

You've got mail

April Photo a Day - Day 3:  Mail

Today's photo prompt for the April Photo A Day Challenge is mail.  My photo for today is a screen shot of how I receive roughly 80 percent of my mail - via email, and usually checked/read on my iPhone.  It's just so darn convenient to check it on the go.  And in keeping with my current thing for black and white photos, it has been suitably edited.

As an aside, this prompt has made me think about my current mail arrangements - you'd think that this would be super efficient wouldn't you?  Well I'm sitting here thinking about this and realising that I really do have too many mail avenues - would you believe I have six!  I have 2 home email addresses, 2 work email addresses, a post office box and a letter box out the front of our abode!  On top of that, we also get the occasional item delivered to the lovely Wayne's work place.  Hmmm, methinks there's a bit of overkill there.

How about you dear reader, do you have a number of mail avenues that you use?  Leave a comment to let me know (I really just want justification that I'm not the only crazy person with numerous mail avenues!).

A man-child & space birds

Happy Friday!  Thankfully the weekend has begun.  I'm sitting here chilling out, glass of wine in hand and appreciating the fact that the weekend is here.  It will be a good weekend too as my sister and my brother-in-law are in town for the weekend which means dinner with them at mum and dad's - always a good night when the six of us get together.

You may have twigged that I said I'm sitting here chilling out - no mention of the lovely Wayne.  Well that's because tonight I'm an Angry Birds widow!  A new version of Angry Birds was released last night (Angry Birds Space) and as the lovely Wayne is in essence a 50 year old child who is addicted to all Angry Birds games, it has been downloaded and is being fiercely played.  I imagine other readers with children experience a similar situation however I can't very well send my big kid to his room for playing it too much, can I?!  This will last a couple of days until he has mastered it then all will be back to normal.  It's actually quite cute to watch as he really gets in the zone.  And I will be sure to thank my sister and brother-in-law tomorrow night at dinner as they were the ones who introduced the lovely Wayne to the original Angry Birds.

Irish Luck and English Friends

The Irish

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!  In keeping with the theme of Saint Patrick's Day, I thought I'd share a photo that encompasses both the origins of the day and today's photo prompt for the March Photo A Day Challenge (which I'm not technically participating in!) which is Green.  So here you have a photo of a 4 leaf clover that I found quite by accident a few weeks back.  The lovely Wayne and I were at the park and I happened to glance down at a patch of clover and this little gem was right there in front of me - no searching involved!

According to tradition, such leaves bring good luck to their finders, especially if found accidentally.  According to legend, each leaf represents something: the first is for faith, the second is for hope, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.  I hope that this 4 leaf clover (or shamrock) is lucky for me!

The English

Today I caught up with my dear friend Tracy who lives in England.  It's been a couple of months since we had a good chin-wag but as always, it's like we spoke yesterday.  As well as catching up, today we tried something new (to each of us).  We downloaded Skype and chatted via video on Skype.  Well how cool is Skype!  Neither of us can believe that we have taken so long to embrace this wonderment of modern communication.  Now I'm sounding like someone's nanna!!  Oh dear.  Anyhoo, I just had to share today's discovery with you dear reader.  Tracy and I are hooked, that's for sure.
